Don Tong Scholarship
The Don Tong Scholarship was established in 1999 by LaMarr Williamson to honor the memory of his friend, an outstanding Bay Area photographer. Don was a veteran of World War II and known as a jack-of-all-trades in photography. He designed and built much of his own equipment, and painted his own studio backgrounds. The first programs Don gave to other photographers were about painting studio backgrounds.
Don was only the third Asian photographer in the United States to receive the PPA Master of Photography degree. He was a role model and mentor to many other Asian-American photographers like Hanson Fong, Edmund Lee, Patrick Wong and Paul Tsang who have themselves earned the PPA Master's Degree.
Deadline to apply for Scholarships was December 31, 2007. Notification of recipients will start on January 15, 2008.
